Kilio Cha Haki - The Play

UpToYouToo and CSB presented the first Dutch adaptation of the re-known Kenyan play Kilio cha Haki. It was played by 13 students, with participation of 2 actors from the Kenya National Theatre, the décor was made by the set designer of the All over the World music video, costumes were made by youth supported by YIKE. The soundtrack of the play consisted of remixed tracks from the Kilio cha Haki album.

The play, which title translates as Cry for Justice, was published in 1988 by Alamin Mazrui and has since been used as a text book in the official curriculum of secondary schooling throughout Kenya. Originally written in Kiswahili many Kenyan adults have played Kilio cha Haki at their local school once. The play deals with oppression and the position of women in the Kenyan society.
