EEN

EEN is ONE, the Dutch chapter of GCAP. EEN is the campaign of the Dutch Platform Millennium Goals (NPM); over 50 social and development organizations collaborate in the platform. EEN strives for a world that doesn’t tolerate hunger and poverty. For a world with adequate health care and education for all. EEN strives for the fight against HIV/AIDS through prevention, awareness and good pharmaceuticals. For better aid, dropping the debt for impoverished nations, fair trade and a clean environment. EEN appeals to world leaders to achieve the millennium goals, here as well as in all parts of the globe.

A worldwide effort
For the first time in history this generation has the ability to eradicate poverty. Government leaders of 189 countries made an important promise at a UN Summit in New York in 2000: to honour the most pressing poverty and development issues before 2015. If all rich countries live up to their promises to spend 0.7% of their GDP on aid, there would be enough money to achieve these millennium goals. Unfortunately, many rich countries, including the powerful G8, keep disappointing public anticipation. Scandinavian countries, Luxemburg and the Netherlands have been leading the way and have been spending 0.7% for the past years.
